Skimboarding (or skimming) is a boardsport in which a board is used to ride on an outgoing wave. In Australia it has always been known as skiffle boarding and experienced popularity from the 1950's to 70's with circular boards, and has more recently increased in popularity with more shaped and curved boards. It can be particularly dangerous because it is conducted in very shallow water, riders who fall risk injuries such as dislocations or broken bones.
